SerialMomhaslongbeenoneofmyfavouritemovies.JohnWatersonceagaindemonstrateshisunfailingabilitytotapintoourfearofthegrossanddisgusting,and,perversely,helpustofaceourfears-wemayknowsomeonewhopickshisnose,butWatersgivesusanobnoxiouswomanwholetsherdoglickherfeetcleanafterashoppingtrip.Maybeyourmothercaughtyoujackingoffwhenyouwereyounger,butWatersbringsawholenewdimensionoftoe-curlingembarrassmenttothescenariointhebrilliantsequencewhereScottyenjoys(ahem!)aChestyMorganvideo.Watersalsothrowsinclose-upsofpeopleeatingnoisily,adentistsdrillinaction,amessyimpaling(madehilariousbyKathleenTurnersflawlessperformance),anankle-nibblingrat,signedphotographsofCharlesMansonandRichardSpeck,respectablemiddle-classhousewivesswearinglikeconstructionworkers,anall-femalerockbandcalledCamelLipsandaPee-WeeHermandoll-quot;stillintheboxquot;!Allthiswouldmeannothingifthefilmwasntincrediblyfunny,andthankfully,itis.Infact,itsoneofthemostsubversiveandinventivecomediesevertocomeoutofamainstreamstudio,andyoullbequotingthedialogueforweekstocome.Andincaseyouthinkitsimpropertolaughatserialkillers,considerthis-howoftenhaveyouwantedtoblowawayanirritatinggumchewer,ateacherwhogaveyoubadgrades,acarelessdriver,whoeverstoleyourlastboyorgirlfriend,orprettymuchanyonewhogotonyournerves?SerialMomistheperfectescapevalveforallthosenegativeemotions,andistheperfectfilmtounwindwithattheendofastressfulday.quot;ArethosePUSSYwillows?quot;
