《好莱坞报道者》ClarenceTsui，电影《匆匆》的影评链接地址：http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/found-lost-cong-cong-beijing-698353原文：FoundLost(CongCong):BeijingReview4/23/2014byClarenceTsuiTheBottomLineAnover-longhistoricaldramatreadinglightlyonhistoryandcharacterdevelopment.Decades-spanningdramaexploresayoungwomansreunionwithherestrangedfatherandherrecollectionsaboutlifeinpoliticallytumultuousChinafrom1959to1989.Atamuch-reportedpanelattheBeijingInternationalFilmFestivallastweek,OliverStonespokeaboutChinesefilmmakersnotmakingfilmsabouttheMaoZedong-backedCulturalRevolution.Heswrong:Inrecentyearstheresbeenaconstanttrickleoffilmsexploringthatdecade-longcatastrophe,whichsetChinabackforagenerationandalteredthenationalpsycheforever.Thecorrectquestiontoask,infact,ishowthatpartofhistoryisrepresentedonscreen.HavingemergedfromtheChinesegovernmentsblacklistinthe1990stobecomingthecountrysmostofficiallycelebratedfilmmakers,ZhangYimouwillprovidehisanswernextmonthwithhisstate-sanctionedComingHome:ThefilmwillopeninChinaonMay18afteritsworldpremiereasanout-of-competitionentryatCannes.ButaswifterresponsecouldbefoundjustadayafterStonesoutburstatasparsely-attendedscreeningattheBeijingfestivalsfilmmarket:ZhuXiaoweismodest-budget,independently-producedFoundLostdealslessaboutthelegacyofChinaspoliticalupheavalsfromthe1950stothe1970s--asZhangYimousaidhewould--butisactuallyashowcaseoflivesbeingledduringthatepoch,completewithcorruptedcadrescapitalizingonthechaostofulfilltheirdesires.NotthatFoundLostgoesalloutinbringingtheexcessesofthathorrifyingepochtothescreen.Giventhestringentcensorshipregimeithadtoconformto,thefilmhaspulledalotofpunches.TherearenodepictionsofshowtrialsasinChenKaigesFarewelltotheConcubineortheentireunravelingofonesexistenceinsocietywithZhangsToLive,twofilmswhichhaveremainedunreleasedinthecountrydespitetheirdirectorstransformationfrompariahstostate-sanctionedfigures.Here,producer-directorZhuXiaoweisyoungfemaleprotagonist,Ling(JiaYumeng),getsofflightlythroughoutthedecadesforheroriginal-sinofbeingthedaughterofanexiledKuomintangmilitaryofficer,withascuffleandaretort,shesabletoprotectherchastityandintegrityagainstherschemingsupervisors.Whatslostwashardlyherdignity,buttheoddopportunitytoescaperuralboredomorhavehernovel(abouttheravagesoftheCulturalRevolution)published.ItsperhapsironicthatitsinameetingaboutthelatterthatLingwaschastisedforherquot;unrealquot;depictionsofsufferingandpainduringthatdecadeofMaoistpurges.ForallitssmallstepsofboldnessfortacklingCulturalRevolutionexcesses,FoundLostisindeedunreal.Thepallidnarrativeunderminedfurtherbyprotractedconversationalset-pieces,andaflashbackstructureprovingtobeasconfusingfortheviewerasitisexactingfortheproductionteam(when,forexample,asequencesetin1989featuresastate-of-the-artairportfilledwithflat-screenTVsandselfcheck-inmachines).Withitsmodestbudgetreflectedinthejustcompetentproductionvalues--expectnowideshotsofcitiestransformedintothepastbyCGI--itwilltakenicheChinese-themedprogramstobuyintoFoundLostsmildly-mannered,treading-softlyaesthetics.hefilmstitlereferstotherelationshipbetweenLingandhisfather(TaiwaneseveteranChangKuo-chu),fromwhichshehasbeenseparatedsinceshewasbornin1949.Thefilmbeginsin1990,whensheisseenbreakingdownatatelegraphofficeafterwiringamessagetoherfather.Barelyaminutehaspassedthatthenarrativeagainzipsbackintime,thistimetoMarch1989whenLingwasattheShanghaiairportgreetingherfatherforthefirsttime.Asthepairspendtheirtimetogetherduringthenextfewdays,thestoryzipsinbetweenepisodesofthepresent(amidstvaguediscussionsaboutlifeanddrawn-outargumentsabouttheirdifferentworldviews)andthepast.Lingsrecollectionsareepisodesmarkeddecadesapart,eachofwhichseeminglyemployedtomarkadifferentepochinthePeoplesRepublic,whichwasestablishedinthesameyearLingandherbestfriendJianguo(LiuYindi)--quot;BuildingtheNationquot;inChinese--wereborn.In1959,sheisachildlivingonlimitedmeanswithhergrandmother,asthecountrycontendswiththeeconomicproblemsbroughtaboutbythe(unseenandunmentioned)GreatLeapForwardmovement;in1969,astheRedGuardsmountanti-intellectualpogromsacrossChina,Linggivesuplifeinthecitytojointhemassesofquot;educatedyouthsquot;rescindingtheiracademicpursuitstoworkasfarmhandsintheruralhinterlands--aspellinwhichanofficialtoldher(andthenattemptstoblackmailher)abouttheexistenceofherTaiwanesemilitary-officerfather.Andthentheres1979:AsChinaissetforopen-doormarketreformsanditsleadersstilltryingtoignorethedamagecausedbyCulturalRevolution,Lingsautobiographicalnovelisclassifiedbyhersuperiorsasquot;negativequot;materialnotappropriateforpublication.TheimpactoftheblowisfurtherheightenedbyatragicmessagefromthefrontlinesoftheSino-VietnameseWar,newswhichfinallycondemnedLingtolifeonherown,until1989,whenherfatherbecomesthefirstgroupofTaiwaneseexilesofficiallyallowedtoreturntomainlandChinatovisitrelatives.Unsurprisingly,thatoneepoch-definingincidentin1989--theChinesegovernmentsbloodyclampdownonthepro-democracystudentmovementatBeijingsTiananmenSquare--wasnotmentionedeveninpassing.This,insteadoftheCulturalRevolution,isactuallytheonehist
